From Bishop Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows
Dear Ones,
Our Transition Minister, Jennifer Phelps, let me know that she has discerned that it is time to seek other work beyond the Diocese of Indianapolis. Her last working day will be March 15. With five years on bishop’s staff, she has earned a departing sabbatical which will conclude on June 15.
During her time on staff, Jen Phelps has transformed how we tend to churches in transition between settled clergy; supported the work of the Commission on Ministry; and has recruited and assisted in calling many of the amazing priests who make our Diocese strong and vibrant. In addition to cultivating community for Wardens-In-Charge (serving congregations without settled clergy), Jen has been an incredible resource for our Diocese in a variety of technical areas from Safe Church to Covid-19 regathering protocols. All of this is in addition to Jen’s leadership in transition ministry in the regional and church-wide arenas.
The Rev. Canon Giulianna Cappelletti Gray, Canon to the Ordinary for Congregational Development and Leadership, will continue oversight and care of congregations in transitions including those which Jen has been tending. Clergy seeking calls or congregations in transition may reach out to Canon Giulianna with any questions or requests for support. Please stay tuned for an opportunity to give thanks for Jen’s ministry among us. Please hold Jen and her family in your prayers during this time of transition. A note from Jen follows this message. Faithfully, Bishop Jennifer
From Jen Phelps
Dear Friends,
What a time this has been to walk with so many people and parishes in transition. I am proud of the work we have done together forming new deacons and priests, calling priests to new ministries, discerning lay calls, growing in vitality, supporting each other, and building community.
When I encouraged the diocese to engage in deep discernment, I did not anticipate I would hear God stirring in my own life. God, of course, laughed. I am eager to discover how God will take what I have learned working alongside so many of you and apply it to my next call.
My children, Wally and Sage, and I will remain in Indianapolis and as active members at Trinity while they wrap up their high school careers.
I leave the Bishop’s staff having been blessed by you and by this work.
Faithfully,
Jen
We will all miss working with Jen!
Vacation. Joe and I will be on vacation from March 6-17th. Please contact David if there are any issues requiring immediate attention. I will be returning to the office on 3/18. Jim Jefferies has volunteered to provide you with Grace Notes. If you have information you would like to share, Jim’s email is [email protected] . Thank you to Jim!
As our parish profile is updated, we will need photos. Please share photos of Grace Church activities to gracechurchparish@gmail, subject line “photos”.
Sunday School Needs. We need a second person in the Sunday school room through May. If you can sign up for a Sunday, please do so on the sign-up sheet on the Parish Hall bulletin board. We will be providing co-teaching during the 25-26 school year. I am looking for people to sign up for one or two Sundays per month. Please let Connie know if you are interested.
Gathering Grace. Last Sunday we served 124 meals. Thank you to all of the volunteers and for the cake donations. It is so appreciated. This week we will be serving meat loaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, and cupcakes.
A Better Way – March Needs – Regular Sizes (Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash), Deodorant, Zip Lock Bags (Quart and Gallon). A Better Way staff observations – We often see children arrive quiet and shy as they come from being in a home with an abuser. They begin to blossom when they recognize they are in a safe place at A Better Way. Rooms begin to fill with laughter during playtime. Thank you for your donations!
Christian Ministries needs: Cereal and oatmeal, peanut butter, canned soups, toothpaste, toothbrushes, men’s deodorant, shampoo, women’s feminine hygiene products.
